Suction system
Four fans and drop-down skirts that are described as holding the car at low speed.
Key facts
- Fans
- Four, about 20 kW each
- Cornering
- over 2 g
From 0–50 mph.
- Above 200 mph
- Skirts open and fans pull underbody air
What it is
Four rear fans of about 20 kW, described as derived from heat-pump compressor motors, work with four independent drop-down skirts. The skirts are described as rubber and nylon-bristle wear parts. The system is credited with more than 2 g of cornering from 0 to 50 mph, and with holding the car on the inverted ramp.
Above 200 mph the skirts are described as opening so the fans evacuate air from under the body. Fan cars are the comparison drawn in coverage. Suction is described as Tesla's work, not SpaceX's.
